My WD HD does not recognize my shared folders on my laptop. My Wi-Fi is otherwise fine. Windows Share Server is ON. This is exactly what I was trying to do, when I choose Windwos Shares I can only see the circle with arrow, it just keeps circling all the time and nothing else happens. Right click on the folder on the PC that you want to share.
Now as you work your way through this ensure you give all permissions, read, write etc for this folder. Between media servers and network shares that is I can get thru on media servers but can not see the ISO files? A password is required because wihtout one anyone on the network can access the files. Just wanted people out there to know it does work before returning it.
I used to see all the network shares before upgrading to latest firmware. There must be a problem because I do not put any access password on the shares. Do you have any ideas? Click it, and a Command window will open. If THAT happens, you can stop. I saved the best for last. Again, that is intentional in my case,. That command will work even on the same box itself. So, this covers the majority of the problems. Not sure why that is. I would prefer my Windows Home Server which is always on in my home, laptop is not perform this function.
Any guidance you can provide on making this happen would be greatly appreciated. Then, persevering with a pair of D-Link mains powered connections I started to get my external L drive and all the folders, including videos, etc. Also, Vuze recognised the WD and I could - still can - play from there, which seems curious as that software is on my C: drive. First off, thanks for the information. I have been reading on here for a few days and have narrowed my problem down. I am trying to share my external hard drive connected to my XP machine with the network.
My issue seems to be only with my firewall. I have run the net view and nbtstat commands and have verified that my computer is set as the master browser I Think. I have also verified that file and printer sharing is enabled on all profiles domain and standard.
