It is mainly used when connecting old decoder models with RF ports. Diplexers are used to combine signal cables and heartbeat cable into one cable to reduce cables in an Extra View Installation. It is more useful in homes that are already wired with one cable because it eliminates the need to install a second cable.
Then, they will go into the diplexer so that they will combine into one cable which will go to the Smart LNB. All decoders are ExtraView capable, although older decoders can give problems when linked with new models because of software upgrades, so please check the possible decoder combinations at dstv.
Skip to content. Extra View Installation. What is 3rd Viewing Setup? Third Viewing is a situation whereby you link 3 decoders in an Extra View Setup. In a 3rd viewing environment setup, the Dstv Explora will always be installed.
In addition, the Dstv Explora must set as the primary main decoder. The Primary decoder communicates with the secondary 1 and secondary 2 through Heartbeat. What is Heartbeat? How many ways of Connecting Extra View? Call Us Now. How to connect Dstv Extra View using Diplexer? The video signal works via RF outputs, thus the video is not available at the far TV.
Many clients are not satisfied by these limitations, thus it can be rectified with more advanced and costly installations. Some of these limitations has been sorted out in the latest PVR decoder and we strongly recoment it. This is accomplished by installing a dual view coupler to separate the power supply from the RF signal, sending it through the video machine and combining it with the power supply as the signal re-enters the dual view coupler.
To accomplish this we can install a dual view coupler, a power pass setback amp and a one leg power pass 4-way splitter, but we recoment the mote expensive route of remote extenders to bypass this problem. Before buying a dish the client must be aware of the different dishes available, their characteristics, reception ability and how this will affect your viewing pleasure. If you decide on the cheapest installation you can expect a LNB Electronic unit in front of dish that is not water-resistant and will have to be replaced within 18 months, as well as a picture that breaks up especially in bad weather.
Cheaper versions tend to move around in the wind and are wobbly. The way a dish retrieves signals is a Science, governed by the laws of Physics. Disobeying these laws by using cheaper replicas can lead to a lot of frustration. The way a dish is shaped is very important for precise reflection of waves onto the LNB. We say that the signal to noise ratio or bit error rate is good Readings done on various dishes have shown that the Visiosat from Europe and Prodlin dishes has very stable reflection chareteristics and produces excellent signal quality.
The 80cm fiberglass RTM dishes would be the next most effective. A well designed dish with precise installation is essential for a stable signal in bad weather. There are a few "clever guys" that say the dish receives a digital signal and feel that precision alignment is not necessary. This is a half truth used to justify speedy work.
The head end of an installation is where all the wires decoders, video machine and DVD come together. It is normally located in the Home Theatre room.
Try to locate the best area for the head end. Moving a head end at a later stage is costly and time consuming. Head end can look like this:. So I was just wondering if I cannot other switches to achieve my mission. Do you have the user band indexes setup correctly? The primary is connected on the universal port and the secondary is connected on port A of the smart Lnb,what is the correct connection procedure.
Hi lemmy can you assist with the installation for the explora 1 as tge primary and tge explora 3a,as the secondary, i did it the same as the pictures that you left on your page when you use the 3a as the primary, is this the right way. Instead of doing that I am considering upgrading the 4U to a 6S single view decoder.
Can you confirm that this will work without the need for additional hardware. I have a LNB installed at present. Yes I bought a genuine dstv lnb So do I just hook them up to their ports without any diplexers.
I have a LNB installed. Your advice will be much appreciated. Where can we buy a diplexer? We have asked everywhere but nobody supply them. We have the explora 1 and bought a new explora 3a, so we need the diplexer to get the extra view as the 3a does not have the correct port as the 2a model.
I have smart lnb with 4uni and 2universal please help with hardware and software installation. I bought two zapper without rf. I have successfully setup xtra view on one of the decoders.
Please without rf port on these decoders , how do i achieve this task. However, first ensure that your decoder supports Xtra view. Pls,I did an xtraview connection at my home with explora as primary and zapper as secondary however the two decoders have different dish………. But its not working……….. Hi,I have a explora 3 and dsd and how do i connect an extra view using explora 3 as a primary decoder. I have a combiner. A diagram will help. Ezekiel: that combination is no longer supported sir.
Please get a compatible secondary decoder such as zapper 5 or 6 decoder. I took the HDD out of the Explora 2 and now the decoder is gathering dust in the garage. Can i replace the HDD 2. Will the decoder format and partition the drive automatically?
Chris: why do you need RF? Otherwise, you may need to limit yourself to using slnb to create the heartbeat. Hi I have a pvr 2p decoder as the primary. How do I add the S6 as the xtraview since it has no RF ports.
Smart LNB installed. Heartbeat betweeb Explora and Explora Primary. However, I keep losing signal on the new secondary decorder.
I also now see that I have two cables that can not be connected into the new Explora 3A. How do I connect Decorder -Explora 3A with the other cables. Hie I just exchanged my old which i was runninng on a twin lnb fot extra view to my 4 series and got the new 6s My question is can i use the same lnb…with a diplexer on the 6s and the 4series for extra view….
Please advise. Smart LNB. Been working fine without heartbeat cable but all of a sudden wont work. Was told I need to buy new Explora.. Should I use Diplexer and which decoder should be Principal.. I thank you. Hi, I have Explora1 as primary and explora 2 as second, connected via unicables to the switch, connected via 4 cables to the LNB. My explora 2 has gone faulty, so I am buying a new explora 3 cannot get model 2 any more.
Can I use a diplexer in line with the explora3 unicable, while connecting the RF port to the explora1 Rf output for the heartbeat, keeping explora 1 as primary? So can you please help me. Use the newer one as primary and run your heartbeat. I bought a dual LNB tried to install it last night but got no signal.
Marcelloe porthen: 3rd party LNBS can never be plug and play with dstv decoders. Good day sir, please I need help. After the installation, with all the manual setup settings and several troubleshooting only the Explora works. The 6S decoder has not worked.
Please do you have any advice on this 6S decoder for extra view. Emannuel: it is very possible and straightforward to do. However, I can say for sure yet if the 3-in-1 xtraview installation is now available in Nigeria.

This post was last updated on September 10th, at pm In this tutorial, I would give a do-it-yourself guide on most DStv decoders XtraView configuration.
Table of Contents. First off, there is a monthly fee for xtraview and PVR subscription which is separate from your package subscription fee. Setting up an extra view on compatible DStv decoder is not rocket science.
All you need is apt attention to detail. A Dualview will never work with any other decoder with XtraView. The 3-decoder combination is not available and will not work with any of the older decoders. Hence if any older decoders are involved the maximum number under one subscription is 2. While inputting the user bands index frequencies into one decoder, switch off the remaining ones, otherwise, there would be a conflict which can stall the process.
Smart lnbs are better than the multi switches and the Explora switches. If any of the older decoders are involved only a 2-decoder combination is possible. However, this comes at a cost in the sense that you need to provide the space for the extra cable. The older single view decoders can only be connected to a Universal port. Note that, there is a distant limit between the decoders in the Xtraview mix.
Maximum distance is 30 meters apart. This can be shorter when old decoders are combined. This should be so in your case too for a number of reasons, including economics and the need to now get ready for full Hi Band channels. So it depends on what decoders you want to combine with the Explora 3A as to how the Heartbeat runs.
Especially relevant; if you fail to terminate the unused ports on your smart LNB, you may be exposing the LNB to either signal loss or damage from the weather. In some cases, both. Please always terminate unused ports. If or when you must use a diplexer, make sure you are using a diplexer and not a splitter or combiner they all lookalike.
This restriction applies only if you want to make use of the SLNB and its cabling for your heartbeat. The workaround for this is to install the HB cable the old way. That is, you need to remove the diplexer from behind the Explora 1.
Reasons Why you may get an Unsuccessful XtraView Installation Considering the fact that xtraview installation if done the right way is easy, why do people still run into problems when trying to setup xtraview on their DStv accounts? Absence of an Extra view subscription or an expired XtraView subscription. Trying to use Explora switches for unsupported decoders such as Explora 3a Carelessness or oversight during extra view installation.
Faulty installation materials such as coaxial cables, F-connectors e.
