Think about it: your router needs one sub-net on one side and another sub-net on the other side -- it is after all a ROUTER!

Actually both the modem and the router default to I will try it out later but some posts in this forum mention that is actually a bridge and you can't manage it with the router in the middle. Thanks again. As far as the router is concerned, I prefer to manually set the MTU on them. I find that "auto-MTU" doesn't work well.. I always like the router to do the router job.
