I have the same situation and when I re-assigned my IP to I disabled DHCP on the router though. You need the modem and router to be on different sub-nets not just different IP addresses!

Think about it: your router needs one sub-net on one side and another sub-net on the other side -- it is after all a ROUTER!

Thanks again. As far as the router is concerned, I prefer to manually set the MTU on them. I find that "auto-MTU" doesn't work well.. I always like the router to do the router job.
