Other highlights of farm visits include meeting the new lambs, kids, ducklings and chicks in spring; chatting to the farmers as they go about their daily chores; and participating in apple cidering and maple sugaring during those respective seasons. Last but not least, the otter pond home to famed river otters Sadie and Bert are other popular stops while at the farm. For your convenience, you can download our literature packet.
Our Philosophy We believe all children are unique and capable learners. We believe that parents are the primary educators. We believe in the importance of instilling a lifelong passion for being stewards of the earth. We believe that learning can take place both indoors and outdoors. We believe in the importance of having children explore outdoors. Classes are led by our experienced program instructors and incorporate the museum's unique features including our exhibitions and historic buildings.
This four week program provides an opportunity for those big and small to play with clay, to each make a special treasure and best of all - spend time together while being creative. Let your kids open up their creative minds. This 4-week program is a perfect introduction to 3D arts and crafts. Children will be learning step-by-step process of working with clay, exploring hand-building techniques, surface decoration.
With their unlimited imagination, kids will create treasures to last a lifetime. Your kids can explore the wonderful world of clay in our Pottery Studio! On a field trip to the LSU Sculpture Garden, they made unique observations of the sculptures—some were abstract, some were interactive, and some were just really large.
The field trip inspired the children to make mini-sculptures, which were added to our art museum. While exploring texture, the children discovered a Braille book. The children decided to record themselves describing their art using a laptop microphone. The recordings—which were made into QR codes using Vocaroo and later printed to be placed on the artworks—provided information about the artist and materials used, and gave a description of the piece. They drew maps of exhibits, even showing where bathrooms were located!
